In this year’s Sustainable Energy Week (SEW) , ESMIG conference focused on what Smart Metering is all about, namely what it means for the consumer, the impact of Smart Metering technologies on energy efficiency and how they can enable other smarter and more efficient technologies (Smart Grid).
The event took place on 14 April in the European Commission Charlemagne building in Brussels and it was attended by around 100 guests.
Frank Hyldmar, ESMIG Vice-President opened the event giving the floor to the first session high-level speakers Jessica Stromback (Executive Director, SEDC), Zoe McLeod (Consumer Focus, UK) and Howard Porter (ESMIG Managing Director). The second session featured presentations by Bertrand Hugoo (Chairman, T&D Europe Executive Committee), Jörg Jasper (Eurelectric, member WG Smart Grids) and Frank Hyldmar.
The different high-level speakers looked into several key smart energy applications and potential synergies to increase energy efficiency, such as smart metering, home automation, demand response and smart grids. The event inspired the discussion on how smart metering and grid technologies are connected and how they can bring benefit at all levels, while delivering real added value to the end consumer, enabling energy efficiency from the meter to the grid.
