Following a Position Paper on Smart Charging for Electric Vehicles agreed within the Electro-Mobility Platform, on 20 September smartEn will organise a Breakfast Debate entitled “Tapping the value of smart charging through the EPBD review and the Electricity Market Design” which aims to provide specific recommendations to boost the uptake of smart charging through two opportunities:
- the Guidance Note on the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD) review that the Commission is going to draft by December 2018 to help Member States in their implementation of the Directive into national laws. This Guidance Note should include best practices and examples for an ambitious implementation of the Directive which currently does not include smart charging, but limited provisions on ducting infrastructures and charging points for some building types;
- the Electricity Market Design currently in negotiation at EU level. Several provisions in both the Electricity Directive and Regulation could impact the uptake of smart charging which is an important asset to energy management in the energy system of the future.
To support our policy asks, 3 success stories will be outlined by:
- Xavier Moreau, Strategic Advisor, Nuvve – “Transforming into opportunities the challenges of electric mobility and renewables integration”
- Hugo Niesing, Project Manager, Smart clean Energy and Electric Vehicles 4 the City (SEEV4-City) – “How integrating smart electric mobility solutions and renewable-energy sources can benefit cities”
- Fabrizio Gasbarri, Vehicle-grid-Integration, Enel X – “Integrating smart public-access charging in private customers’ premises”
The Breakfast Debate will take place at the Enel office in Brussels and is open to key policy-makers and a few members of the Electro-Mobility Platform.
