AFIR, EPBD, and the RES Directive together create a regulatory framework for smart, flexible, and eventually bidirectional EV charging across Europe. But in practice, charging infrastructure remains fragmented. Chargers that are “smart” on paper often cannot communicate with grid operators, aggregators, or energy management systems in any standardised way.
This panel explores the gap between regulatory ambition and real-world implementation.
