Florence School of Regulation – Workshop on “Energy Efficiency and the Internal Energy Market” on March 30th, 2012

Jessica Stromback, Executive Director of the SEDC, will speak at a workshop on “Energy Efficiency and the Internal Energy Market” which the FSR is organising at the European University Institute in Fiesole (Florence) on Friday, March 30th, 2012. The Workshop will consider the regulatory implications for the energy sector of the proposal for a Directive on energy efficiency tabled by the European Commission in June last year. It will focus on two specific issues: the potential role of “White Certificates” schemes in promoting energy efficiency; and (ii) demand-side management and demand response.

Therefore, the Workshop will be structured in two Sessions:

–       Session I (in the morning) will review the available experience with national White Certificates schemes, aiming at identifying best practices which are able to deliver the most effective results at minimum administrative costs and burden;

–       Session II (in the afternoon) will be devoted to identifying the (beneficial) role of demand-side management and demand response in a competitive and efficient Internal Energy Market.

Jessica will present the SEDC’s view on the potential of demand response in the electricity and gas markets in Europe.
