Joint smartEn and SolarPower Europe smart solar mobility webinar

The integration of electric mobility into the electricity grid is a key challenge for system operators: will the electricity system be able to cope with an additional demand from large-scale electric vehicle (EV) development? At local level, will the grid be able to cope with the additional load? These challenges are very similar to these of the integration of decentralised photovoltaic, which is increasing fast thanks to decreasing costs.

Thanks to remote communications and internal consumption measurement capability, smart charging can modulate the charging of the EV in response to price signals and system capacity. This means delaying the charging, stopping or starting it, or speeding it up or slowing down. It would allow for EVs to work in harmony with the grid, acting as a form of demand response, rather than simply additional demand.

Smart charging will be a crucial solution to increase the EV penetration rate without affecting the current grid infrastructure but could also maximize the integration and use of renewable energy: it will untap the demand-side flexibility potential and unlock the flexibility of active customers.

The joint smartEn and SolarPower Europe webinar, that will take place on 17 December from 14h to 15h30, will explore the potential of smart charging to enable a solar mobility and discover two business cases of solar smart charging. An interactive session will then enable further discussion among the participants.
