The SEDC will have its 4th free webinar

How New Developments in Standards Impact the Demand Side Business

June 27th from 15:00-16:00 CET.

This expert webinar will cover the current developments within the European Standardisation committees, and their place in developing successful demand response programs throughout Europe. An introduction will also be provided by Jessica Stromback, Executive Director of the SEDC.

The presenters and their topics are as follows:

What Are OpenHAN and Green Button, and Why Are They Such Important Demand Response Standards?, Chris King, eMeter

  • Over 100 HAN devices have been approved in Texas; learn the status of market adoption
  • Discover which appliances are most important for automated demand response
  • 30 million customers have or will soon have access to Green Button energy usage data; what are they doing with the information?

Are Interoperable Devices Reserved For Giant Utilities ? Thomas Schaub, Landis+Gyr

  • Interoperability-exchangeability
  • Standards are necessary but not sufficient
  • The European references for interoperability
  • IDIS –  beyond utility driven interoperability

Leveraging Cloud Services to Drive Device Interoperability in DR Systems; Dave Mayne, Digi International

  • Cloud Services enable standards compliance and migration – demonstrate how the cloud can enable all devices to remain compliant with emerging and evolving standards.
  • Demonstrate how device interoperability and services are enabled through cloud analytics and subscription service models
  • Discuss how Cloud Services enable driver downloads, and enhancement to devices – driving continued innovation for consumers and providers of Smart Grid services.

Setting-up demand-response standardisation guidelines ?” Laurent Guis,  Schneider Electric

  • Demand-response is still an immature area, however standardisation is key for its successful deployment
  • Lack of standards, or conflicting standards will have the same effect of slowing down the spreading of this important Smart Grid function (list of known bodies working on this subject)
  • Converging the soonest on a (very) limited set of consistent standardisation approaches, lead at international level, will benefit to all actors – Is there a place for edicting guidelines to make such an event happening?

Toward International Demand Response Standards, Dave Hardin, EnerNOC

  • Broad consensus is emerging within the international community
  • While many differences will continue to exist, architectural and standards alignment is being achieved through active collaboration
  • Demand response standards are a high global priority and work is underway to address international concerns and achieve harmonization
