Together with our Electrification Alliance partners, we have sent a letter to key policy-makers addressing the increase in wholesale electricity prices in Europe with insights and recommendations.
To overcome this situation, the Electrification Alliance suggests:
- Structurally reduce taxes on electricity bills, which in most countries are higher than taxes on other forms of energy.
- Fully implement Clean Energy Package provisions to ensure flexible consumption for all. Policymakers should speed up their overdue implementation, which would allow customers to benefit from these fluctuations by adapting their consumption.
- Accelerate the Clean Energy transition by reducing Europe’s dependency on imported gas and its volatile prices. The more renewables, along with efficient grids, energy storage and other forms of flexibility, the lower our Energy Bills.
