Press statement in view of the “Fit for 55” Package

“Today, in the package to deliver the European Green Deal, the Commission has shown its commitment to accelerate climate action by making the energy system cleaner and more efficient through renewables-based electrification in sectors such as buildings, transport and industry.

Achieving climate neutrality requires transformative change in the most fair and cost-efficient way possible. The legislative proposals should therefore be strengthened in order to encourage the users of electricity to flexibly interact with the power system. Prosumers should be rewarded for being active customers and increasing the efficiency of the entire energy system.

It is key to look beyond optimising efficiency at the individual level in order to achieve the increased EU 2030 climate and energy targets in the most cost-effective way, and to involve all consumers, leaving no one behind.”
