The EU’s energy system faces structural challenges, as fossil fuel-related crises continue to impact both energy prices and availability. Demand-Side Flexibility (DSF) has the potential to mitigate the impact of current and future crises.
By activating the flexibility potential of already deployed assets, the EU can achieve immediate price reductions for all consumers, significantly lessening the impact of fossil fuel price volatility and accelerate electrification and connection of new generation by reducing the need for grid investment.
These best practices feed into the Commission’s living document — the AccelerateEU catalogue — demonstrating how appropriate regulatory frameworks and market access can unlock demand-side flexibility and bring significant benefits to the system.
