Enhance collaboration between industry and heat pump stakeholders
Description
The HP4INDUSTRY project aims to accelerate the deployment of large-scale heat pumps (30 °C – 400 °C range) in industrial processes across Europe by addressing technical, market, and regulatory barriers. The project brings together industrial energy users, technology providers, energy service companies, and policy experts to assess where and how heat pumps can effectively replace fossil-based heat and cold in different industrial sectors such as food and drink, pulp and paper, and chemical sector.
HP4INDUSTRY develops standardised process designs, flexibility concepts and validation frameworks that enable industries to adapt to variable electricity availability and price signals, while maintaining reliable and efficient production. The project places strong emphasis on process flexibility, system integration, and the alignment of technical solutions with market and regulatory conditions, supporting the replication of results across sectors and industrial applications. Through working groups, validation activities and stakeholder engagement, HP4INDUSTRY contributes to the decarbonisation of industrial heat and supports Europe’s climate and energy objectives
This project has received funding from the European Union under the LIFE Clean Energy Transition Programme, Grant Agreement No 101215522
SmartEn contributions
smartEn leads the coordination of the development of flexible industrial process concepts that respond to electricity price variability and system constraints. In this role, smartEn provides market, flexibility and policy expertise, supported by inputs from its Active Industry Committee, while technical modelling and engineering analyses are carried out by specialised project partners.
In addition, smartEn supports several work packages by contributing to working groups and consultation activities, representing the perspective of flexibility and energy service providers, and ensuring that project outcomes are aligned with existing and future European energy market and regulatory frameworks. smartEn also contributes to communication, dissemination and policy-oriented activities.
