The Smart Energy Summit is a biennial European business gathering of around 200 senior professionals from market players, system operators, financial institutions and public authorities. In 2023 we aim to address the importance of maximising the local self-optimisation of distributed flexible resources. Thanks to a multitude of business models, local self optimisation would help solve congestion challenges and avoid costly grid reinforcements that might be caused by the deployment of new decentralised forms of electrical load and generation. This development would benefit both consumers and the whole energy system.
Our 1-day event will be shaped around three main dimensions affecting the development of local energy optimisations:
-
Financing: Access to finance options for businesses and consumers is crucial to set up and deploy cost-effective local self-optimisation schemes.
-
Innovation in Local Optimisation: A multitude of energy trading and sharing schemes self-managed at local level are in development, beyond local energy communities or local flexibility markets.
-
Flexibility Markets Monetisation: Local optimisation is more than just district self-optimisation, it can provide whole system benefits and rewards in a system of interoperable systems.
