Webinar – The value of actual performance metrics in active buildings

The need to reduce gas imports and extreme volatility in energy prices lead the European Commission to push for the improvement of energy efficiency and deployment of solar rooftop. This offers the potential to reduce the carbon footprint of European buildings with on-site renewable generation.

Does it mean that efficient buildings without on-site renewables cannot be zero-emission? How to consider the flexible consumption of renewable electricity from the grid to reduce the carbon emissions of an active building? How to quantify the actual carbon and flexibility performance of a building? smartEn will reply to these questions during this webinar where the outcomes of demonstration trials carried out by a few smartEn members will be presented. The mere deployment of decentralised energy resources in buildings is not enough. Buildings should be able to adapt their energy consumption and generation in reaction to signals received from the power system, to maximise their contribution to a more efficient local power system.

This capability should be measured through actual performance metrics. Abstract and theoretical indicators on the energy and carbon potential of buildings do not fit anymore with the green and digital transition. Data-driven and accurate performance information would push and pull active buildings for the benefit of both occupants and the local energy system.

Join this smartEn webinar to be inspired by innovation and understand how EU legislation can accelerate the smart energy transition.
