smartEn is the European business association integrating the consumer-driven solutions of the clean energy transition. We aim to create opportunities for every company, building and car to support an increasingly renewable energy system.
Our vision is that every European benefits from playing an active role in the clean energy transition.
Our mission
Promote system efficiency through the advanced management and integration of electricity demand and supply in homes and buildings, transportation, businesses and decentralised energy projects.
Empower energy users by enabling them to participate in the energy market through flexible demand, storage, self-generation and the participation in community projects, and giving them control of their energy data.
Encourage innovation and diversity by enabling new market players and energy service offers that provide attractive choices for consumers and allow for healthy competition.
Drive the decarbonisation of the energy sector through the cost-effective integration of renewable sources and smart electrification of heating, cooling and transport.
Create a cross-sectoral single voice for innovative market players driving digital, decentralised and decarbonised energy solutions,
Advocate smart energy solutions with policymakers to realise supportive regulatory conditions

E-Mobility Task Force
Reporting to the Active Buildings & Neighborhood committee, the E-mobility Task Force gathers a wide array of leading companies active in e-mobility (Vehicle manufacturers, Charge Point Operators, energy suppliers, energy solution providers etc.) supporting the integration of Electric Vehicles into the energy system. The support of smart and bidirectional charging are essential to achieve this objective.

Network Code Task Force
A part of the Markets & Networks Committee, this task force coordinates smartEn’s contributions to the ongoing development of the network code for Demand Response, where smartEn is one of the few members of the drafting committee.

Active Industry Committee
The Active Industry Committee focuses on addressing the unique needs of various industries, particularly those that are energy-intensive, to help them become active in the clean energy transition. This includes leveraging their flexibility and enabling their participation in markets and mechanisms on a market-based basis. The Committee also seeks to enhance the recognition and support for the Flexible Demand Management Industry, which smartEn represents, as an essential sector within the EU’s clean tech industry. The Committee monitors and contributes to key EU legislative initiatives expected in the coming years to strengthen Europe’s industrial competitiveness.

Digital Agenda Committee
Being at the forefront of driving the digital transformation of Europe’s energy sector, the Digital Agenda Committee creates consumer-focused energy data spaces and an AI roadmap for secure, interoperable data sharing. It identifies scalable solutions for flexible demand, renewable integration, and system efficiency. Its priorities include improving energy data quality, enabling cost-effective net-zero operations, and developing cybersecurity standards for secure, scalable digital solutions.

Active Buildings & Neighborhoods Committee
The Active Buildings & Neighbourhoods Committee works to transform buildings and neighbourhoods into active participants in the energy transition. It advocates for the recognition of flexible, energy-efficient buildings within the EU’s energy policy framework, including through a fit-for-purpose regulatory framework for smart-ready building renovations and newbuilds, efforts to enhance the measurement and certification of flexibility in buildings, enhanced consumer information, and streamlined administrative processes and tools. The Committee aims to ensure that buildings and neighbourhoods are equipped to play a central role in Europe’s clean energy future, while enabling cost savings for building owners and enhancing the comfort of EU citizens living and working in them.

Markets & Networks Committee
This Committee brings together members interested in developing market access for Demand Side Flexibility, for example in ancillary services or wholesale markets. It also deals with network-related topics at all levels, from DSO to TSO grids, and deals with a wide range of topics from network tariffs to connection agreements.
